Join the Parish Path Warden Scheme: Enhancing Rights of Way Networks
Kier Highways are looking for volunteers to help them improve the rights of way around the county! If you're interested in getting involved, contact the Parish Clerk via clerk@byfield-pc.gov.uk
We're reaching out as we are re energising our Parish Path Warden Scheme. This initiative is designed to involve local communities in managing the Rights of Way network, ensuring that paths are safe, accessible, and well-maintained.
What is the Scheme?
The main goal of the scheme is to involve local councils and their communities in monitoring and reporting the condition of public paths. By participating, you can help ensure that routes are not obstructed, are clearly defined, and are properly maintained, which will promote safe and enjoyable walking for everyone.
What's Involved?
As a Parish Path Warden, your role will be to regularly check local paths for any issues such as overgrowth, obstructions, or wear and tear. You don't need to be an expert—just someone with a keen eye for detail who can assess different needs. A path may be clear for some users, but challenging for others, and it's important to consider accessibility for all.
To participate, all you need to do is:
- Take a photo of any issues (using your phone or camera).
- Report it through the council's online reporting tool.
We'll provide training on how to use the system to report any defects and track their progress. Additionally, you'll receive quarterly newsletters showcasing the work that the scheme is enabling in communities like yours.
Why Join?
- Be an active part of maintaining and promoting your local path network.
- Ensure paths are accessible and safe for all users.
- Receive support and training from the council.
- Celebrate the great work being done in your community through regular updates.
