March 2020

The way we all live our lives is changing rapidly and we face an information overload which sometimes creates more questions than answers during a time of such uncertainly. National information is available from the government online and it is a good idea to check regularly on developments and advice at:

From the Parish Council perspective, we can inform you of the following:

• The general advice would seem to be ‘stay at home’ until we are told otherwise.
• The Brightwell Recreation Ground and associated areas remain open but we must all limit our time out of our homes and observe social distancing rules.
• The Parish Council has placed notices on the play equipment kindly reminding villagers not to use that area however we are unable to physically isolate it.
• All local clubs, teams, groups and organisations must interpret and apply the new restrictions to their activities. The Government will be imposing penalties for those who do not.
• The Parish Council is awaiting guidance on if, and how, we should meet but we will continue with our responsibilities.
• We have been assured that our income is secure and will continue to pay our bills and anyone who carries out work on our behalf.

We are very lucky to live in a beautiful rural location where it is easy to exercise but still observe the social distancing rules. Whether it is a ramble over the footpaths or a stroll around the village please remember spring is not cancelled. The daffodils and narcissi are out; the hawthorn and mayflowers are coming. Maybe take a moment or two to see these things afresh.

The Byfield Good Neighbour Scheme is working well and many of us have personally already seen random acts of kindness and courtesy from right across the village. There is no doubt these will continue as we work our collective way through this new normality.

We hope you all stay fit and well.
